What is the answer to the rising US cost of fuel/gas with no apparent shortage to account for it? Please, no “if you think it’s bad in the US, try going to _______” . Not trying to be rude but I really am not worried about how much fuel would cost me in other countries, my family and I live and try to make it Day-to-Day in the US so that comparison really isn’t relevant. I just feel the people of this country are getting used by ???? with no apparent control over how much gas will cost. It really doesn’t seem to be market driven anylonger (if ever)!
So, basically, you’re saying because we fell behind in production after Katrina they have yet to catch back up with demand?

There is a lot of talk about getting off of dependence on oil. Though gas prices are going up, it is still not as expensive as what is payed in Europe. But, alternate energies come at a cost, too. Electric cars would save all sorts of gas, great. But we aren’t building any more power plants – no one wants one by them. So, limited amount of electricity means more outages and higher bills. How much will the increased electric bill be vs the higher gas bills?
Ethanol…less CO2 emissions, yeah (of course nitrogen based emissions are higher..and worse for the environment). As people are just discovering, there is only so much farmland. Every acre of farmland used for ethanol is one less for food (can we say food shortages or higher prices). Not to mention, how much energy is used creating the ethanol?
I am not saying that we shouldn’t try to have alternatives. I am saying people need to take off the rose-colored glasses and make a realistic comparison.

i have a 20 gallon electric water heater now. it works fine and we don’t have a problem with running out of hot water if we plan ahead. my brother is selling his 60 gallon gas water heater for cheap and we have a gas hook up in the basement for a water heater.

we save $110 a year by shutting off the gas each spring when we are not using our only current gas appliance, the furnace. we have to pay $50 each fall for the gas company to come out and turn the gas back on.

if we got the gas water heater it would be nice to be able to use all the hot water we wanted and not wait an hour after taking a shower for someone else to shower or to wash dishes.

Im wondering if an apartments rent is $700 a month,
and all I need to pay for is gas and electric, about how much
does that cost monthly? How much approx. should I add on th the $700?

What are typical prices for a furnace for a 3 bedroom house, for gas or electric? Do they come with the A/C evaporator coil in them, so we can hook up our central A/C system to the furnace unit? Or would we have to install the A/C coil separately?

A friend and I just moved into a one room apartment in Seattle, WA. How much, roughly, would electricity and gas cost? Keep in mind we are not using the heater or a/c, and we are being very conservative with the electricity. We only use gas to cook noodles (for lunch and dinner every day).

What is the typical cost of buying the equipment and installation of tankless ‘Gas’ water heater? For my house we need 2 of them.

My house is being constructed right now, so I asked my builder to put this instead of regular tank. They are charging $2500 for each unit. I think this is too high and payback time will also be long. Am I right?

Also, any idea about cost of installing hot water circulation system to conserve water. Push of a button will bring the hot water within a minute to the faucet.

I have a rental property which is a duplex built in 1948. The gas furnace is in a low efficent. It’s only a 770sqf for each unit and the gas bill is as high as $250 a month. It’s in a low income neighborhood so I dont want to spend a lot of money to upgrade to HVAC? Is it worth to repair it or it’s better to just buy a new gas furnace? How much does it cost to buy the unit and to install it? Any other options than installing a new gas furnace?

My parents had a newer boiler than mine. When they had a gas valve replaced, it cost nearly $500. I called a different HVAC company and they said that it was about right. I am trying assess the wisdom of buying a new boiler. I have an old Maclean-Weil (hope that’s right) about 40 years old for a split level home about 1800 square feet plus sub-basement.

My current furnace was installed in 1994 so I’m sure technology has changed and it warrants an upgrade. But, my furnace works great, heats fine. Just going to take advantage of the Tax Credit and upgrade to a more efficient system. I have terrible allergies which is why I’m interested in the CLEANEFFECTS but very skeptical of its effectiveness. The furnace will be installed same spot, same duct work…
